Hydrangea villosa (rough leaf hydrangea) is a large, deciduous shrub that has large, velvety green leaves, peeling bark and large lacecap flower clusters. Hydrangea villosa makes a bold statement in the garden with its large velvety leaves and large lacecap flower clusters in late summer and early fall. Hydrangea villosa makes a great specimen in the back of the garden (it is a fairly large plant) and also great in mass plantings.
