Magnolia grandiflora 'Kay Parris' is an evergreen tree with large, shiny green leaves with brown backs and large white flowers. Magnolia grandiflora 'Kay Parris' is a stunning, upright conical shaped southern magnolia with lustrous green leaves, with beautiful, bronze/orange undersides and abundant, lemon scented, white flowers throughout the summer. For those of you who don't know me, I'm very well known for my work with Magnolias for the past 30+ years and at one point in time, I had the largest collection of southern magnolias in the World (still in the top 2-3 largest collections), so I've had plenty of years of observations on Magnolia grandiflora, and in my personal and professional opinion, Magnolia grandiflora 'Kay Parris' is the BEST of them all. I have about 140 cultivars here on my farm and 'Kay Parris' is on the the few that can easily and always be identified from the rest. The original Magnolia grandiflora 'Kay Parris' was raised from seed collected by the great magnolia guru Kevin Parris and is a seeding of 'Little Gem' as the mother and very likely 'Bracken's Brown Beauty' as the father. We quickly saw the value in this cultivar and it has become a mainstay in the nursery industry now and is even being grown in very large numbers in Australia! Magnolia grandiflora 'Kay Parris' can be used to create a large screen/hedge and can easily be pruned into any size or shape you might want to create, is fantastic in mixed plantings or as a specimen. Magnolia grandiflora 'Kay Parris' is slightly smaller (narrower) growing than many varieties of southern magnolia so is easier to use in areas that a larger tree would not be appropriate. Magnolia grandiflora 'Kay Parris' has a longer bloom time than most other varieties and will certainly add class and charm to your garden. Magnolia grandiflora 'Kay Parris' is great used for cut foliage for Christmas and makes the most stunning wreaths you can image! Simply the BEST!
