'Okukuji Nishiki' is a beautiful variegated Japanese maple. It leafs out in the spring with pink margins to its chartreuse leaves. As the leaf matures, the pink variegation matures to a creamy white. Fall color are bright reds with pink variegation. 'Okukuji Nishiki' forms a dense upright Japanese maple reaching 8-10 ft in height in 20 years. We recommend protection from the hot afternoon sun for best variegation. If you see spots of solid green foliage on this selection, prune it off and reduce the amount of fertilizer you have been giving it.
