Ampelaster (Aster) carolinianus

Ampelaster carolinianus is a large scrambling herbaceous, fall blooming perennial with small lavender flowers.  Ampelaster carolinianus (Climbing Aster) is more sprawling than climbing and can grow to 10' tall and is great to cover a trellis or allowed to crawl into large shrubs or small trees.  if you have neighbors with junky back yards, Climbing Aster is perfect to hide even small abandoned cars!  Ampelaster carolinianus  can tolerate fairly wet or  even dry soil (best in average garden soil) and needs to be in a sunny or mostly sunny part of your garden.  Excellent plant for wildlife: birds, bees, butterflies and even small mammals enjoy this plant.  Thanks to Mike Celednik and Cheryl Kearns for use of their photos.
