Callicarpa kochiana 'Tosa no homare' RARE
Callicarpa kochiana 'Tosa no homare' (beautyberry) has small clusters of lavender pink flowers followed by white berries and has large, green and creamy yellow variegated leaves. Callicarpa kochiana 'Tosa no homare' is one of the WHAT IS THAT? plants! Most people guess it's a Hydrangea villosa (myself included) when they first see it. Callicarpa kochiana 'Tosa no homare' is a RARE cultivar with extremely large (for a Callicarpa anyway) leaves that are randomly splashed with green and creamy yellow. Flowers/fruits aren't common in areas with winter temperatures into the low teens. We have only flowered this cultivar in our greenhouses and have a friend near Raleigh, NC that has had fruits on his plant. Callicarpa kochiana 'Tosa no homare' is a must have for all plant geeks wanting to stump their friends or for anyone that just wants a truly stunning foliage plant in their garden. Callicarpa kochiana 'Tosa no homare' is probably best grown for its stunning foliage and can be cut back hard in the late winter if you want even larger leaves. The flowers and fruits are extremely showy!
