Chamaecyparis thyoides 'Red Velvet'

Chamecyparis thyoides 'Red Velvet' is a juvenile leaved selection of Chamaecyparis thyoides (white cedar) that looks much like the old cultivar 'Rubicon'.  The primary difference is that 'Rubicon' is a worthless landscape plant and dies very quickly in most gardens (any maybe not quick enough) whereas 'Red Velvet' is an outstanding landscape plant.  Chamaecyparis thyoides 'Red Velvet' has bluish green summer foliage and turns to reddish purple for the Winter.  Not commonly seen in any garden but would be useful in screening unsightly areas (or bad neighbors), great in group plantings or as a specimen.  Full sun is necessary for best performance.
