Clethra barbinervis 'Takeda Nishiki'
Clethra barbinervis 'Takeda Nishiki'
Clethra barbinervis 'Takeda Nishiki' has small, highly variegated leaves and forms an upright shrub or small tree. Clethra barbinervis 'Takeda Nishiki' is one of the most stunning variegated plants I've ever seen! 'Takeda Nishiki' has highly variegated leaves - mostly white with green dots, and makes a small, upright tree or large shrub. We are amazed that 'Takeda Nishiki' grows well in a fair amount sun - I planted one with morning sun, one with middle of the day sun, and one in many hours of hot, baking afternoon sun. All three are about 6-7' tall now and absolutely stunniing! We have noticed that 'Takeda Nishiki' (and all clethras in general) does not like to grow in dry sites - it required average moisture - not wet, not dry - for best performance. Fall color is difficult to describe - hopefully pictures give you some idea - a mix of hot pink, lavender, sometimes coral, gold, ivory. Clethra barbinervis 'Takeda Nishiki' is stunning in a bright woodland garden and can be used as a specimen or group planting. Once 'Takeda Nishiki' gets a few years of growth, it will produce long pendulous panicles of fragrant flowers and the bark will start to peel off and it stunning in its own right.
