Dichroa febrifuga ( blue evergreen hydrangea, Chinese quinine) is a small evergreen shrub that produces blue (lavender) and white flowers during the summer and if pollinated will produce stunning blue berries. Dichroa febrifuga is closely related to Hydrangea and prefers similar growing conditions. Best in moisture retaining, but well drained soil. Dichroa febrifuga is best grown where protected from extreme cold - it is an evergreen but can recover from being defoliated by cold weather occasionally (not ideal) and makes a wonderful addition to the woodland garden.
