Schefflera delavayi
Schefflera delavayi
Schefflera delavayi is a STUNNING evergreen shrub that brings a very tropical look to your garden. Most of us are familiar with the tropical Scheffleras planted in tropical parts of the world and its very unusual to see a Schefflera growing in a warm temperate zone! We have found Schefflera delavayi to be hardy into the low single digits once established (have had young plants burned back at around zero Fahrenheit) so probably best to plant where it can get a little winter protection (if you are in the colder end of its range). Nearly everyone that drives past our 2 large specimens of Schefflera delavayi along entrance to our driveway are amazed at the beauty and presence they add to our garden. We rarely have Schefflera delavayi available due to difficulty of obtaining seeds. We have very limited quantity, so place your order quickly. Our plants typically start blooming in mid November and seeds ripen about Christmas IF we are totally frost free during that time! We've only had 1 good seed crop ever due to seeds freezing out. We hope we will have a good seed crop this year - the strange weather this year has caused our plants to bloom nearly 3 months early, so we expect an excellent seed crop - even then, this plant is very slow from seed. It takes 2-3 years from seed to get a saleable plant.
