Spiraea thunbergii 'Ogon'
Spiraea thunbergii 'Ogon'
Spiraea thunbergii 'Ogon' (Thunberg's spirea) is a deciduous shrub with small, golden, willow-like, leaves and small white flowers. Spiraea thunbergii 'Ogon' is one of my personal favorite spring blooming plants in the garden. When most other plants are still sleeping, Spiraea thunbergii 'Ogon' bursts into bloom with myriads of small white flowers and as flowers fade away, brilliant golden leaves appear that brighten up the garden. Spiraea thunbergii 'Ogon' has extremely thin branches and cascades over to make a beautiful mound in the garden and does something that very few other plants do: is sways gently with even the slightest wind movement and gives animation to an another wise static garden. Truly stunning! Spiraea thunbergii 'Ogon' is best in a sunny spot where it will produce brilliant golden leaves (greenish yellow in shade) and is great in mass plantings or as a specimen.
