    Acer campbellii ssp. flabellatum is a Japanese maple cousin from China that bright red to purple new growth and has leaves with long pointed lobes.   Leaves will change to green for the summer.  Acer campbellii ssp. flabellatum is not commonly seen in gardens.  Fall color varies with shades of yellow, orange, or red.
