Acer crataegifolium 'Veitchii' (Variegated Howthorn Maple) is a small, deciduous tree with pendulous branches and green leaves splashed with white and pink variegation. Acer crataegifolium 'Veitchii' is one of my all time favorite maples - I have an old plant that is about 20' x 20' with pendulous branches and in the spring when at peak color, it is one of the most stunning plants in my garden! These plants are on their own roots and would make for a very unusual bonsai subject (these are rooted, so no graft union)! Acer crataegifolium 'Veitchii' is best as a specimen small tree in a dappled shade woodland garden where is is spectacular under planted with brightly colored shade perennials. No bright woodland garden should be without this stunning tree!
