Acer fabri

Acer fabri is a rare, evergreen maple from Vietnam and China that has unlobed, green leaves with reddish growth in the spring.  Acer fabri is evergreen in mild climates and deciduous if temperatures drop below about 20 degrees F.  We had this plant in our garden for about 20 years and it has become a small tree (mostly deciduous here in our garden) and I've seen a beautiful plant in Salem, Oregon that stays totally evergreen.  Its glossy green leaves are very "unmaple like" and most people would never guess its a maple.  A choice landscape plant probably best in a sheltered, lightly shaded area.
