Acer palmatum 'Japanese Sunrise' emerges in the spring with small bright green leaves. As the leaves mature they become a darker green. In the fall as the weather cools, the leaves turn bright yellow. But the feature that makes people stop and stare is ‘Japanese Sunrise’ bark. One side of the tree, the bark will be yellow to orange, while on the other side the color of the bark will be orange to coral red. Expect ‘Japanese Sunrise’ to reach 10 -12ft high in 10 years.
