Acer palmatum 'Red Saber' is a red Japanese maple that has an upright growth habit, but  spreads less than other red matsumurae (leaves are larger, normally with seven to nine lobes which are usually deeply divided to around three quarters of the leaf, or even to the leaf base) Japanese maples. This upright narrow growth form with the sharply divided foliage is where 'Red Saber' names come from. Fall leaves will turn crimson red to scarlet red. Expect 'Red Saber' to reach 8 to10 ft high by 4 to 5ft wide in 10 years.
