 In the spring, Acer palmatum ‘Sunset’ leaves emerge bronze-green in color, that matures to a yellow/green in spring, turning to a light green for the summer. If you plant the Japanese maple 'Sunset’ in direct light for a few hours each day, you can expect a bronze red on tips in the early spring. As the Fall temperature drop, Acer palmatum ‘Sunset’ turns a nice shade of red with splashes of a bleached yellow. Expect Japanese maple 'Sunset’ to reach 3-4 ft high by 5-6 ft wide in 10 years. Plant Acer palmatum ‘Sunset’ in a protected location from afternoon sun for best color.
