Acer sieboldianum 'Kinugasa yama' was selected for extreme cold tolerance.  I'm not sure the understock can handle zone 4 but the cultivar on top can.  Hummmm.  'Kinugasa yama has large, green, full moon Japanese maple leaves.  Bright oranges and reds round out the season in the fall.
