Agarista populifolia (Florida Leucothoe) is an evergreen shrub with small leaves a small white flowers. Agarista populifolia is a fantastic SE USA native that makes and gracefully arching shrub with small green leaves and large quantities of fragrant, white flowers in May to June. Keep away from pets that like to chew plants - this plant is toxic if eaten. Agarista populifolia makes a great plant for wildlife to shelter in and for bees and butterflies (when in flower). Agarista populifolia is useful planted alongside streams or areas prone to errosion - it will slowly make a colony and holds soil well. Agarista populifolia is great in a semi-shaded woodland garden (it gets a bit leggy if in heavy shade) and can even be used as a screen. The branches also make good cut flower arrangements. Agarista populifolia can tolerate occasional flooding and doesn't like extremely dry sites.
