Camellia sasanqua 'Radiant Red' EXLUSIVE NEW GARDEN TREASURES RELEASE! RARE!!!

Camellia 'Radiant Red' is as close to a true red Camellia sasanqua that we have seen to date.  The genetics behind C. sasanqua make it basically impossible to get a true red - all will have a bit of blue hiding someplace, so typical "red" sasanquas are a bit on rose or burgundy.  We have been evaluating huge numbers of seedlings for the elusive "red" sasanqua and after many years, this is as good as we think we are likely to get.  This is a seedling from 'Autumn Spirit' and we have been observing it for over 15 years now and decided it is worthy of introduction.  If you compare it side by side to other "red" sasanquas, it is clearly more red colored.  It is a heavy blooming plant and appears to be rather upright in growth habit.  Flowers of 'Radiant Red' are bright cherry red, semi double with bright yellow stamens.  This is a fall blooming camellia and is not subject to Camellia petal blight (that only affects spring blooming camellias) so this (and other fall blooming Camellias) are the perfect choice for areas of the country where Camellia petal blight is an issue.  Last photo compares 'Radiant Red' (top) to 'Yuletide (bottom)
