Camellia japonica 'Sweet Mary' is a fairly recent introduction, this cultivar produces medium-sized shell pink formal double blooms with a propensity to "swirl" - it should be noted that this characteristic is said to occur only after the plant is established in the ground.

"Sweet Mary  (C.japonica)   ACSRegistration #3104. Registered in 2019. This 10-year-old C. japonica chance seedling first bloomed in 2014. It was originated and registered by Mickey Moore of Americus, Georgia and propagated by County Line Nursery Inc. of Byron, Georgia. BLOOM: The medium sized 8.9 cm x 6.4 cm(treated 10.2 cm x 7.0 cm) formal double form flower is shell pink. This profuse bloomer is long lasting with consistent form and falls in one piece.The formal double blooms tend to have a swirled pattern about 40% of the time with blush pink center petals darkening to shell pink on the outer petals. The petal edges are cupped upward. Most blooms have dashes or flecks of darker pink but no consistent pattern. PLANT: The plant habit is upright and dense. The growth rate is average. The plant is suitable for landscaping and exhibition uses. LEAF:The dark green leaves average 11.4 cm x 5.7 cm with low serration. BLOOM SEASON: Early to midseason."
