Camellia phyllocarpa is a mystery plant from the collection of the late Cliff Parks. Keys most closely to C. kissii, but bears little resemblance to the clones of that species currently in cultivation. Is it a species Cliff had intended to publish before his death? What's not in dispute is its value as a landscape plant. It remains low, and compact, has attractive matte black-green foliage, and blooms heavily in early winter (December in NC). One of our absolutely most favorite species! STUNNING! Thanks to Mike Chelednik for use of his photo.
