Camellia x 'Rosa Marie' NEW

Camellia x 'Rosa Marie' is an evergreen shrub with bright pink flowers in fall to spring.  Camellia x 'Rosa Marie' is an exciting "NEW" camellia via John Davy of Panhandle Growers in Florida.  He produced this stunning landscape camellia years ago by crossing an unnamed seedling of Camellia sasanqua 'Shishigashira' x Camellia rosaflora hybrid 'Rosabell'.  John has had this beauty in production for several years at his wholesale nursery and it has been sold in the western Florida/Mobile AL as a great landscape plant but hasn't been available before to retail customers.  John has been breeding Camellias for many decades now and strongly believes (we agree 100%) that plants should  be selected first and foremost to be great landscape plants.  Great foliage, growth habit, disease and insect resistance take priority over big gaudy flowers.  A great plant breeder will work hard to incorporate all this traits as well as good flowers.  John has accomplished this with several camellias and we are honored to be allowed to build stock and sell some of his great hybrids!  Camellia x 'Rosamarie' is this first of his plants we are releasing, but there are more to follow.  Camelia x 'Rosamarie' grows slow to average and produces a dense, fairly upright shaped plant (without pruning) and produces multitudes of flowers that start in the fall, and if winter isn't too cold, and into the spring.  Camellia x 'Rosamarie' makes a stunning hedge but also great as a specimen.  NEW and choice!  Limited availability.  Thanks to John Davy for use of his photos.
