Magnolia x 'Xinzi' RARE
Magnolia x 'Xinzi' RARE
Camellia x 'Xinzi' is a RARE, broadleaf, evergreen shrub with grayish pink/lavender flowers. Camellia x 'Xinzi' (means New Purple in Chinese) is a most unusual camellia. It is claimed to be a Camellia nitidissima (yellow flowers) and Camellia sasanqua hybrid - if this is true, it certainly shows no traces of this C. nitidissima BUT it does have a most unusual colored flower. It is rather hard to describe the color of 'Xinzi' (photos don't really show the color well) - a grayish pink/lavender. It is unlike any other camellia that I've seen. 'Xinzi' is too new into cultivation to know its ultimate size or hardiness. We have only grown it in containers in greenhouses that stay just above freezing during the winter but assuming Camellia nitidissima is a parent, then I would expect warm zone 8 or warmer - just guessing. It is an extremely heavy blooming plant, and totally unique! As far as I know we are the only source for this unusual and rare camellia.
