Carpinus betulus 'Franz Fontaine'

Carpinus betulus 'Franz Fontaine' is an narrow, upright form of European Hornbeam with small, green, deciduous leaves.  Carpinus betulus 'Franz Fontaine' is one the the narrowest growing trees that I've seen and grows relatively quickly to 20' or so, and then slower to 30-40' and maintains its very narrow growth habit.  'Franz Foutaine' is excellent as a specimen where ever a tall, vertical accent is needed and can be used as a narrow border planted in rows.  'Franz Fontaine' has a pleasant golden fall color and its narrow out line gives it a great garden presence even when dormant in the winter.
