Celtis sinensis 'Green Cascade'
Celtis sinensis 'Green Cascade' (Chinese hackberry) is a deciduous weeping tree with gray bark and green leaves. Celtis sinensis 'Green Cascade' is a fast growing, stunning, weeping tree (or groundcover if not staked) with beautiful gray bark and has pale yellow fall color. With training, it will easily become a focal point in your garden. Celtis sinensis 'Green Cascade' was grown from seeds collected at the Suwa Jinja shrine in Japan by the late Cliff Parks. He was not allowed to collect cuttings from this national monument tree, but was allowed to collect a few seeds. Our thanks to Cliff for introducing Celtis sinensis 'Green Cascade'. Celtis sinensis 'Green Cascade' is extremely fast growing and will make a fairly large specimen in a few years. Celtis sinensis 'Green Cascade' is best used as a focal statement in your garden. Its shape and size is only limited by your imagination! I've seen it trained over tall trellises, grown as sprawling shrubs, staked up to make a small tree, and then allowed to weep down from there - all were stunning! Thanks to Tony Avent of Plant Delights Nursery for the photo of mature plant.
