Chionanthus retusus 'Ivory Tower'

Chionanthus retusus 'Ivory Tower' is a Chinese fringetree growing at the J. C. Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC.  Beyond that plant, we can find no other reference to this plant - it is a big mystery to us.  We don't see a "tower" growth habit on this plant, but it is getting shaded by some larger trees.  It appears to produce flowers and leaves at the same time which is a bit unusual for Chinese fringetrees.  'Ivory Tower' will certainly make a great landscape plant with its delicate appearance.  All our fringetrees are grafted onto Chionanthus retusus to prevent the suckering issues with Chionanthus virginicus.
