Elaeagnus 'Sweet Scarlet'' is a fantastic fruiting Elaeagnus that makes a delicious, tart, red fruit that ripen in mid summer.  'Sweet Scarlet' is a compact selection with superior fruit production compared to the species.  'Sweet Scarlet' is deciduous to semi evergreen, has fragrant white flowers in late winter and has silvery green leaves.  If the birds don't beat you to the fruit, you will have plenty for you and the wild life.  Fruits taste similar to tart pie cherry.
