Ficus afghanistanica 'Silver Lyre' is a deciduous shrub with silvery blue leaves. Ficus afghanistanica 'Silver Lyre' is a beautiful shrub or small tree (in warm climates) with heavily lobed, silvery blue leaves and is stunning as a foliage plant. Ficus afghanistanica 'Silver Lyre' is probably best in zone 8-9 but will survive as a die back shrub in colder areas - it might be best to treat as a cut back plant even in warmer climates to keep it in a more juvenile leaf form and more tidy habit. Ficus afghanistanica 'Silver Lyre' adds a rare silver color to the garden that is not often found in temperate plants (at least not plants that grow on the East Coast - West Coast gardeners have a wider range of silver plants - yes, rub it in.) In time, Ficus afghanistanica 'Silver Lyre' can become a decent sized, multi stemmed tree but can easily but cut to the ground every year to produce a stunning silvery shrub. Ficus afghanistanica 'Silver Lyre' works great at the back of a sunny perennial border, could be used in a mixed shrub border or as a specimen anywhere a pop of silver is needed.
