Ficus carica 'Chicago Hardy' is a deciduous shrub with large leaves and brown fruit. Ficus carisa 'Chicago Hardy' is one of the more cold hardy figs andstem s are hardy to about 10 degrees F and roots to -20 degrees F (mulch heavily in cold areas!). Ficus carica 'Chicago Hardy' produces a medium-sized, sweet, dark colored fruit in late summer to early fall. In eastern NC we don't need to do anything special to protect from the cold, but in colder areas, protection is needed. Ficus carica 'Chicago Hardy' produces fruit on current seasons growth, so if needed, pruning can be done in late winter and you will still have fruits that season.
