Gymnocladus dioicus (Kentucky Coffee Tree)

Gymnocladus dioicus (Kentucky Coffee Tree) is a large, deciduous tree with extremely large, pinnately compound leaves (like a giant fern).  In the spring, the young leaves have a pinkish bronze coloration that becomes blue green for the summer.  Female trees produce large seed pods (like giant beans) if there is a suitable male tree in the area.  Gymnocladus will tolerate a wide range of soils and full sun and average to moist, well drained soils.  Can be used as an excellent, large shade tree.
