Hedychium deceptrum (Red Hardy Ginger Lily) is an uncommon ginger has dark burgundy bracts with brilliant orange-red flowers in mid to late summer and green leaves. My favorite ginger due to its stunning color and low stature. Hedychium deceptrum would be stunning in a large mass (it is a slowly running clump) or could be used as a specimen as well. This is one of the hardiest "red" flowered gingers. These are seed grown plants and we are seeing a little variation in growth habit and leaf color (we found an awesome dwarf and a bright gold leaf seedling - we will watch these, and if good enough, will offer in the future). Not expecting much color variation in the flowers, but we don't yet know. Probably best to keep inside a greenhouse or warm garage this winter and plant in the ground in Spring unless you live in a very mild winter climate area.
