Hydrangea serrata 'Koijigahama' is a deciduous shrub with green leaves broadly margined white.  Hydrangea serrata 'Koijigahama' is a RARE new introduction from Japan that has totally amazed us with the quality of foliage.  We have dropped nearly all our Hydrangea production due to issues with leaf spot - and we just don't see that on this cultivar!  Additionally, it has held up this winter (in the greenhouse just above freezing) as being nearly evergreen (all other cultivars dropped leaves long ago).  We have not yet seen it flower  (we've had it 2 years, but we have really cut it hard for propagation) and suspect it is not a Hydrangea serrata - it "looks" more like Hydrangea macrophylla to us.  We have not yet trialed Hydrangea serrata 'Koijigahama' outside yet, so don't have any information of garden performance, but can honestly say it is one of the very best variegated plants (not only Hydrangeas - all plants) that we have at the nursery - and that is saying a lot since we have MANY hundreds (thousands?) of variegated plants here!  Hydrangea serrata 'Koijigahama' would be stunning as a mass  planting in a woodland garden (best with irrigation) or excellent as a specimen.  We have no idea what the flower type will be, but guessing a blue lacecap.  A true STUNNER and we look forward to hearing how it performs in your garden!
