Ilex vomitoria 'Yawkey' is an outstanding selection of our native yaupon holly that has masses of pale orange fruit as compared to the typical red fruit of the species. 'Yawkey' really stands out in the winter garden where it glows when the sun shines on it. As will all Ilex vomitoria, the leaves can be used to make tea (google info on this). Contrary to its name and untrue claims, this plant was not used as a purgative. False information by the English MANY MANY years ago to protect their tea interests - they didn't want people to know there was a tea alternative that could easily be grown.
