Osmanthus fragrans 'Yuntinan Caigui'  (sweet olive, tea olive, fragrant olive, sweet osmanthus) is a small evergreen shrub with fragrant white flowers in the spring and sporadically throughout the season, with variegated green with broad white margined leaves.  Thirty years ago, a friend asked me "what would be your favorite plant you could ever image" - my response was a stable, white margined Osmanthus fragrans.  Sadly, at that time, it was only a dream - no such beauty was to be found in the USA.  Jump forward 20+ years and there is a whispered rumor that a white margined clone was finally in the USA and after a couple of years of searching, I FINALLY nabbed one!  My dream plant finally in my hands (fortunately for you, you can't see me doing my happy dance right now).  Osmanthus fragrans 'Yuntinan Caigui' has it all - STUNNING variegated white margined leaves that flush lavender (OMG can it get any better?!) and still has the intoxicating fragrance of regular green Osmanthus fragrans!  Oh, but wait, it often re-blooms throughout the growing season, so the fragrance just keeps coming!  Ok, so its "nearly" the most perfect woody plant of all time - sadly not as hardy as the species, so plant in a sheltered site.  The planting combinations with Osmanthus fragrans 'Yuntinan Caigui' are limited only by your imagination!
