Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Purpureus'

Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Purpureus' is an evergreen shrub with small, shiny green leaves that emerge with a purple cast.  Osmanthus heterophyullus 'Purpureus' is very useful as a pruned hedge or can be used as an evergreen background for lower growing shrubs and perennials.   The purple colored leaves are more pronounced at the younger growth but the older leaves still maintain a deep green color than is typical of other Osmanthus heterophyllus varieties. Flower fragrance is very much the same as it is for other Osmanthus heterophyllus - not as fragrant as Osmanthus fragrans, but very nice none the less!  Osmanthus is one of our absolutely most favorite Genera and we will continue to add more varieties!
