Prunus persica 'NCSU Dwarf Double Red' is a dwarf deciduous tree with long, lance shaped, green leaves, and large, double red, flowers in spring. Prunus persica 'NCSU Dwarf Double Red' is a remarkable dwarf red, double flowering form of the common edible peach and was selected at NCSU in Raleigh, NC many years ago. Prunus persica 'NCSU Dwarf Double Red' has large, dark red, double flowers in the spring before the long, narrow leaves emerge and makes a stunning specimen in a mixed border. Prunus persica 'NCSU Dwarf Double Red' is technically an edible, fruiting peach and does make a small, tasty fruit. I have made pickled peaches with them before and they were excellent. Fruits are numerous, small and cling stone, so difficult to process (I left stone in when I pickled them). I've never tried thinning the fruits to see if it would produce a more normal sized fruit, but maybe worth trying. The intense flower color and bloom density of Prunus persica 'NCSU Dwarf Double Red' makes this a standout in our spring garden.
