Quercus hypoleucoides (Silverleaf Oak) is a semi evergreen, small to medium sized tree with long, narrow grey/green leaves that are silver on the undersides.  Quercus hypoleucoides is a Southwest USA and Northern Mexico and is drought tolerant (as you would suspect from its native range) but is amazingly tolerant of our wet summer conditions here in the SE USA.  In my opinion, Quercus hypoleucoides is one of the very best landscapes oaks there is!  Quercus hypoleucoides is fairly slow growing but will eventually become a stunning specimen small tree that stands out in any garden with its grey/green leaves and silver undersides.  From a distance, Quercus hypoleucoides could easily be mistaken for an olive tree - it has a very "mediterranean" appearance.  Silver Oak would be stunning planted with masses of agaves or other succulents but is beautiful in most any siting.  Silver Oak has a very formal outtine and would be cool as a mass street/driveway planting to give formality in shape (but not so much in color).  Rarely available and we only have a few this year.  Thanks for Mike Chelednik for use of his photos.
