Quercus petraea 'Purpurea' is a stunning purple leaf form of Sessile Oak and will produce a spectacular reddish foliaged shade tree in time. I've grown Quercus robur 'Purpurea' here in the past and it flushes a nice red and then quickly fades to green in our hot climate (North Carolina) whereas Quercus petraea 'Purpurea' starts with dark green leave that become more intensely red with the heat of the summer. Truly a remarkable tree and should be much more widely planted!
