Rhododendron catawbiense "Lavender"

Rhododendron catawbiense "Lavender" is an evergreen shrub with fairly large green leaves and large clusters of lavender flowers in the spring.  Rhododendron catawbiense is native to a wide area in the eastern USA and is commonly found at lower to mid elevations in the mountains but there are populations found in isolated populations even toward the coast (usually in steep ravens).  Rhododendron catawbiense makes a stunning landscape plant but does require well drained soil - they are susceptible to root rot issues in wet areas.  They grow well in full sun but might appreciate filtered shade in hot, southern areas of the country.  The plants we are selling are all a single clone we produced in our tissue culture lab that have a nice lavender colored flower.
