Syringa pubescens subsp. patula 'Miss Kim'
Syringa pubescens subsp. patula 'Miss Kim'
Syringa pubescens subsp. patula 'Miss Kim' (Korean Lilac) is a small, decciduous shrub with green leaves and panicles of fragrant, lavender flowers in late spring. 'Miss Kim' lilac is a good lilac for southern gardens where the French lilacs languish in the heat. Syringa 'Miss Kim' blooms with a profusion of fragrant, lavender flowers in the spring (not as fragrant or as showy as the French lilacs that are grown in northern climates, but is one of the very few lilacs that can be successfully grown in the southern parts of the country) and additionally has fairly high resistance to powdery mildew which can be a big problem with French Lilacs in hot and humid climates. 'Miss Kim' lilac can be used as a specimen or planted in mass plantings. 'Miss Kim' lilac has a dense, compact growth habit and does not require any pruning to maintain its shape.
